Quick Tips For Getting More Traffic To Your Site

Any website owner knows the importance of getting traffic to their site. After all it really doesn't matter how wonderful your site looks, its irrelevant how technologically advanced you make it. If you haven't got traffic, you haven't got a business. So what we're going to look at is five great ideas for getting you more visitors to your site.

One of my favourite ways of attracting visitors is by getting backlinks. Now backlinks can work in two ways, they can get you direct visitors and they can also get you the attention of the search engine spiders. By attracting the spiders or bots as they're sometimes known, you will find that search engines see your site as being important to other websites and they will give a boost in your search engine ranking as a result. It's important to understand that not all links are equal though. A link from a major authority site will carry much more credibility in the eyes of the search engines than one from Billy Bob's peanut memorabilia site.

A simple way to gain extra traffic that is often overlooked by many site owners is by linking back to your site in your signature file on forums. Now this is a technique that's been around for years but that in itself should tell you something - it works! Some forums have no follow links but that's not a problem because you're still attracting the attention of users on there. The trick with this one is to be subtle. Avoid the screaming, multi-coloured link that smacks of hype and go for a low key approach. Try using something that will pique the reader's interest instead.

The next method for getting backlinks is by article marketing. This is where you either write or g=have written an article that you then share with other site owners by allowing them to publish it on their own site. In the past the approach was that you would contact the sites individually and ask them if they would like one of your articles to use. Now don't dismiss that method completely as it can still work like a dream, especially if you give them unique content that's not available anywhere else. But a much more time effective way of using article marketing is to take your article and submit it to some of hundreds of article directories on the web. For this to work best you are better off tweaking the article slightly for some if not all of the directories you send it to. This will gain you credibility in the eyes of the search engines.

Most blog owners realise that they have an RSS feed built into their site and they also know the huge benefits to be gained from "pinging" RSS directories to let them know of any new content they've added. However only a few owners of static sites, (sites written in html) know that they can also have an RSS feed and will gain the same benefits. It's beyond the scope of this article to explain the technical aspects of it but for a very quick and easy way to do it check out Dapper.com for more information.

Social book marking sites have really flourished over the past couple of years and it seems a new one pops up every day now. Why? Because people love them. They're a quick way to keep track of sites that you may want to re-visit at a later date. But for the owner of any site looking to get more traffic it's also a speedy way to gain backlinks. Once again, be subtle in the way that you do this and you will see great increases in your traffic. Try to spread your link building over a period of a few weeks for the best low key approach and you won't cause flags to be raised on the search engines.
